Overview about Zayed Sustainability Prize

The Zayed Suitability prize is a global award which founded in 2008 by the United Arab Emirates to sustain the legacy and the honor of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, He probably consider the founding father of the nation. The prize managed by the Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company and the prize is intended to recognize the solution driven by the innovative, impactful, and inspirational sustainability to tackle the pressing global challenges.

In addition, the sustainability prize is now that recognizes and awards a small to medium enterprises, non-profit organization, and Global high school which has a very power full innovative, and inspiring sustainable solution.

Over the past 15 years, the Zayed prize has awarded more than 117 winners who have positively contributed and impacted the lives of more than 385 million people across the world

Since launch the prize, the Zayed sustainability has reached over 400 million people world and this is reflect the commitment and continue efforts paid  by the Zayed prize  to contribute significant advancement and improved access to clean water and nutritious  food and health service.

Prize Categories and Awards

The prize is underway the following six categories:

  • Food
  • Energy
  • Health
  • Water
  • Climate
  • Global High schools

Categories

Health

This health category section will identify organizations have positively impacted their community and have outstanding innovation, inspirational sustainability solution, and impactful area including access to   affordable health care and ensuring access to maternal and newborn healthcare and more.

Food

This category recognizes any organization whether Non-profit, community based that have demonstrated sustainability solution in the area of reducing hunger and malnutrition, agricultural productivity and food processing as well as food system

Energy

This Energy sector will recognize and award all organization involving in the following area and positively add a great contribution energy affordable, production of energy and improving energy infrastructure

Water

This category will shed light on organizations that can have a track record of  innovative, impactful and inspirational sustainability solutions in the areas of water that include:

  • Improving  access to safe and affordable drinking water
  • Ensuring access to sanitation and hygiene
  • Increasing water use efficiency

Climate Action

The category recognizes organizations that have demonstrated innovative, impactful and inspirational solutions producing positive results in the following areas:

  • Climate Adaptation and resilience building
  • Sustainable Land Use and Forest Conservation

Global High Schools 

The Global High Schools category recognizes any high school or   secondary schools, from six global geographic regions that projected an innovative, impactful and inspirational sustainability projects/ program in the following area

  • health,
  • food,
  •  energy  
  • Water.

Each of the firs five categories will award a prize of 1 Million US to the winners. And the high school will be selected a six winners which from the world region such as Sub-Sahara Africa, The America, Europe, Central Asia and south and east Asia and MENA region. Each one will receiving up to $150,000 to implement their project idea within their schools and cities.

Selection Process

The selection process for the prize will undergo a various evaluation rigorous and listed the below:

  • Due Diligence: an independent research institute will conduct an assessment through all submission to check if they are meet the criteria of innovation and impact
  • Selection Committee Review:  a committee  review  will select the qualified and shortlist finalist
  • Jury Deliberation: an esteemed global experts will evaluate the finalist to select the most appropriate winners
  • The final winners will be announce in the period of January when the annual ceremony hold in Abu Dhabi sustainability week

Prize Information

The total prize fund is US $5.9 million, divided as below:

  • Health  $1,000,000
  • Food  $1,000,000
  • Energy  $1,000,000
  • Water  $1,000,000
  • Climate Action  $1,000,000
  • Global High Schools  $900,000

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible the prize you must meet the following area:

  • Your organization must be small or medium enterprise or non-profit organization
  • Your organization must be demonstrate a clear vision and long-term plan to employ further the solution
