Fully Funded James Aryam Postgraduate Scholarship for Conflict-Affected Students in East Africa

Introduction
The James Aryam Postgraduate Scholarship is an initiative funded by Windle Trust International, and it has a broader mission aimed at promoting access to quality education for refugees and marginalized communities across the African Continent. The postgraduate scholarship program is targeting anyone who is unable to cover their education due to being affected by crisis, displacement, or conflict. The program is promising that anyone who wins the scholarship will benefit from academic funding, access to leadership training and mentorship, and a long-lasting network and meeting change makers across the African community during the scholarship program.
Overview of the Postgraduate Scholarship
The postgraduate scholarship targets individuals from conflict-affected settings, particularly sub-Saharan Africa, and it also seeks individuals with a strong academic background and ready to come back his/their origin country to contribute to their communities. Windle Trust international scholarship program strongly prioritizes applying for postgraduate scholarship for any individual who demonstrates financial need, considers refugee or displacement status, and community involving as well as vision to apply the skills and knowledge gained from the scholarship program to local development.
The main objective of the scholarship program is equipping the future leaders with the basic tools and knowledge to reshape and contribute to their society’s development and inspire transformation

Who Is Eligible?
Scholarship candidate should be underway the following criteria:
- Be a resident of Sudan, South Sudan, or Somaliland, or a Sudanese refugee living in Uganda
- Be living or currently based in the eligible countries
- Hold a bachelor degree for any field of study and least meet second-class upper(2:1) or equivalent
- Have a least two years of professional relevant experience or voluntary experience
- Deeply showcase the commitment of financial needs and have a track record of community involvement
- Be ready to come back original country within one month after completing the scholarship program
- Scholarship gives preference to female applicants to reduce gender inequality in education
Scholarship Theme
Scholarship is highly given priority to the following scholarship areas that align with the national development priorities:
- Nutrition
- Public Health
- Education
The scholarship theme was carefully selected because of the chance of potential to make a great impact in rebuilding and developing conflict-affected communities.
Host Universities
Individual who successfully secure the scholarship program will be admitted to take study program one of the below universities partner in across Uganda country:
- Makerere University
- Bugema University
- Uganda Martyrs University
- University of Kisubi
- Uganda Christian University
To be considered for your application, you must independently apply for admission to a least two of these institutions for August 2025
Scholarship Details
The James scholarship under Windle trust international will cover the following area:
- Full tuition fees
- Fully tuition fee
- Monthly living stipend
- Relocation support
- Travel cost to and from home country
- Leadership development and mentorship
- Workshops, conferences, and ongoing welfare support
- Orientation support to ease the transition into graduate study
- WTI does not charge any application fees
Application Timeline
Application window: 15 May – 7 June 2025
Interviews: Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews in June–July 2025
University admission: Apply separately to participating universities before August 2025 intake
Deadline
All applications for the James Aryam Scholarships must be submitted by 7 June 2025. Incomplete or late submissions will not be considered.
