About the Grant Program

The CJIFA 2025 Community Empowerment Grant Program in Africa has been formally established by the Community Justice and Impact Finance Alliance (CJIFA). By providing money for human rights advocacy, climate justice, and sustainable development projects that have a tangible, local impact, this initiative seeks to elevate the voices of grassroots actors. This call is for anyone involved in a civil society or community-based organization that is committed to social justice and the environment.

The Community Empowerment Grant Program from CJIFA is a modest grants program designed for grassroots projects addressing climate issues and advancing inclusive development in African countries. By supporting innovative projects at the local level, it aims to bridge the gap between inspiring concepts and tangible effects.

Grant Objectives

The program’s main objectives are as follows:

• Increasing Climate Dialogue: Encouraging more extensive national conversations about climate change.
• Improving Accountability: Motivating CSOs to hold organizations responsible for cultural, social, and economic rights.

• Empowering the Marginalized: Giving women, young people, and people with disabilities priority over groups that are frequently left out of decision-making

Eligible Countries

Candidates must be citizens of one of the following nations:
South Africa, Zambia, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Rwanda, Niger, Cameroon, Malawi, Tunisia, Botswana, Uganda, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Cote D’Ivoire, Liberia, Mauritius, Egypt, Tanzania, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Mozambique, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Kenya

Who Can Apply?

Organizations must be non-profit, non-religious, non-governmental, and non-political in order to be taken into consideration.
• Maintain an active local registration for one to three years.

• Be headed by women, youth, or underrepresented groups.
• Offer creative, inclusive, and long-term project concepts.

Who Is Not Eligible to Apply?

  • People and for-profit companies
  • Religious organizations, political parties, government agencies, international non-governmental organizations, businesses with yearly revenue over $80,000, and businesses headquartered outside of the qualifying nations

Priority Focus Areas

At least one of the following themes must be present in projects:

  •  Democracy and the Rule of Law: Encouraging access to justice and sound governance
  • Equality and Non-Discrimination: Promoting diversity, avoiding GBV, and advancing women’s rights
  • Business & Human Rights: Promoting corporate responsibility and environmental justice
  • Economic Empowerment: Increasing market access and skill sets for local incomes

Funding Details

  • Project Duration: 6–12 months
  • Grant Size: USD 5,000–8,000 per project
  • Renewal: Depending on performance, multi-year extensions may be feasible
  • Projects ought to demonstrate long-term sustainability, community involvement, and cost effectiveness.

Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be assessed according to:
• Innovation: Innovative efforts for climate justice
• Catalytic Potential: Impact that is replicable and scalable

• Mobilization: Public and commercial sectors’ involvement
• Inclusion: Women, youth, PLWDs, and minority populations’ involvement;

• Sustainability: Economic, environmental, and social viability
