About the WHO-TDR KT Grants

The World Health Organization (WHO), through its Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) has officially launched the 2025–2026 cycle of Knowledge Translation (KT) Research Grants This call for research grant application is a part of the initiatives of public health professional and research from the middle level and Low Countries in order to fill the bridge gap created by evidence and health policy implementation.

The Knowledge translation fund is a part of the TDR research grant aimed at amplifying the efforts led by countries and context-sensitive research that drastically transform scientific evidence-based research into actionable health policies and procedures

This kind of fund is tailored to the the broader goals of strengthening health system in Africa and enhancing health quality, and building resilience in the most vulnerable communities

Purpose of the Grant

This kind of grant involves three main categories under the GRA-KT

  • Improving and testing KT intervention: This is the focus the project should come an innovative way to translate the existing knowledge into a practical solution
  • Identify challenges and Enablers: Investigation system factors should affect uptake research in policy making
  • Establish a new framework and tools: Showcase a valid method to measure KT effectiveness and its enhanced impact

A special consideration will be given to any projects that address the outbreak, antimicrobial resistance, and the health impact of climate change under the core of the TDR 2024-2025 roadmap

Eligibility:

All applicants should meet the below requirements:

  • Based in Africa, particularly LMICs as defined by the World Bank
  • Work in public health, academic and Non-profit organization such as universities, ministries of health and research centers
  • Deeply demonstrate track record and interest in research-based evidence, translation, policy dialogue, and enhance the health information system  
  • Be committed to conducting the research in collaboration with national and local stakeholders.

Applicants from high-income countries are allowed, but their projects should reflect and lead from an LMIC

Grant details

Each project which will be selected will receive an amount of fund $20,000 through the following three stages:

  • Planning phase 2025: up to $10,000 to develop ethics approval and operational plans
  • Carry out  phase: up to $8,000 based on reporting progress
  • Final phase: 10% will be resealed in order to complete and accept the final report
  • Additionally, TDR supports open-access publication fees, and co-funding or matching support is encouraged.

  • A signed proposal
  • A letter from the institutions commitment
  • Upload updated cv for all teams in the organization or institutions

Timeline & Deadline

  • Application Deadline: 3 July 2025, 17:00 CEST
  • Project Duration: Up to 15 months
  • Final Reporting Deadline: 30 January 2027
