Compare Fellowship 2025-2026: Call for Applications

Introduction
The Compare Fellowship 2025-2026 is one sure avenue of internationalizing early-career education researchers from low-income countries and amplifying their voices into a global academic discourse. It was inaugurated by Compare, the journal of the British Association for International and Comparative Education (BAICE), and created to facilitate their academic voices and research to larger global exposure.
About Compare and BAICE
Compare is a worldwide leading journal in international and comparative education. It publishes the latest research across educational policy and practice. One of the efforts of BAICE toward equity and inclusion in academic publishing is the establishment of the Compare Fellowship in 2017, which also aims to close the gap particularly benefiting underrepresented scholars, especially from the Global South.
Fellowship Goals and Timeline
Commencing from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026, the fellowship will mentor select scholars and offer capacity building and international exposure. The most prominent aim of this fellowship is to increase participation of low-income areas in scholarly activities and contribute to more inclusive knowledge production in education.
Fellowship Benefits
The fellows will be awarded a comprehensive package covering travel, accommodation, and subsistence. This includes:
- Attendance and presentation during the BAICE 2026 Conference
- Participation in the Compare Writers’ Workshop
- A 1-2 week academic research and collaboration residence at a UK institution
- Individual mentorship with an established academic
At home, fellows are expected to:
- Participate in e-mentoring
- Develop a journal article for submission to Compare
- Organize local writing support activities
- Serve as a peer reviewer for Compare
Who Can Apply?
In order to be eligible for the Compare Fellowship 2025-2026, applicants must:
- Be part of a university in a low-income country (according to the classification of the World Bank)
- Within the last six years have been awarded their PhDs
- Be currently engaged in teaching or research in the area of education
Application Requirements
Those applying must send in the following documents via email to compare@baice.ac.uk.
- A CV/resume detailing academic and professional background
- A 1,000-word supporting statement outlining research interests, publication plans, and expected benefits of the fellowship
- A 300-word abstract for a proposal of a presentation at the BAICE 2026 Conference
- (Optional) Details of contact with a potential UK host institution or mentor
Deadline of Application
The deadline to apply for this fellowship is Tuesday, 3rd June 2025. Applicants should start early in their preparations and ensure that they submit everything by the cut-off date.
