Call for Application: EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY STUDENT MOBILITY SCHOLARSHIPS: Fully funded in 2025/2026

Overview of the EAC-SMS
The East Africa Community STUDENT MOBILITY SCHOLARSHIPS program is a regional scholarship intended to shape and promote student integration and exchange among the member states of the East Africa Community. The scholarship offers students the opportunity to study various subjects, such as undergraduate, Master’s, and PHD studies, in a variety of universities.
The Inter-University Council for East Africa has announced a call for applications for the student mobility scholarship scheme for the academic year 2025/2026. This scholarship aims to foster regional student integration and academic excellence by empowering students to pursue studies in universities.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be national or resident East Africa community states
- Apply to separate universities in a different EAC partner
- Meet and fulfill the academic minimum requirements for your chosen program
- If you are applying master program, your age be under 35 years old and possess minimum upper second class Honours or equivalent
- For PhD candidate, your age under 45 years old and have a relevant master’s degree
- Having work experience is extra advantage for PhD Applicants
Scholarship Coverage
- IUCEA will cover all travel expenses, health insurance and research cost
- Host Universities will waive tuition and examination fees
- Students/Guardians will responsible for accommodation such as living expenses and other fess
Host Universities
A variety of universities across the East African community partner states that offer programs under this scholarship scheme. Therefore, applicants are strongly encouraged to explore programs in host universities in countries and promote cross-cultural academic experience.
Application Process
The application process involves two essential steps, both of which must be completed:
Step 1: Apply for University Admission
If you are committed to applying for the scholarship program, select the suitable program and prepare for the scholarship program.
- Gather all required documentation:
- Motivation letter
- Updated CV
- Certified academic certificates/transcripts
- University application form
- Recent passport photo
- Proof of nationality and residency
- Any leadership, community service, or other recognition
- Other specific documents as listed in the university’s application form
Step 2: Apply for the EAC-SMS Scholarship
- Register online and download the scholarship application form:

(e.g., Amani Africa, EAC-SMS Application, 30th June 2025) - Candidates can apply to multiple universities but will be awarded only one scholarship if selected.
Deadline

Be sure to submit both your university admission application and EAC-SMS scholarship application by the deadline.
Late submissions or incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants must meet all academic and eligibility requirements and are strongly encouraged to apply early to avoid delays.
